Okay, if you’re reading this magazine then we're guessing you probably have more than Rp. 100,000 to spend on Valentine's Day, but maybe you're not into the whole Valentine's Day thing enough to want to spend more than that. Or you could use these ideas another time, say towards the end of the month, right before payday, when your budget is particularly tight. The point is, you don't need a lot of money to enjoy a romantic night with your significant other.

SET THE MOOD WITH THE RIGHT FOOD AND THE RIGHT FLICK
If you're aiming to keep this under Rp. 100,000 then you're going to have to find some pretty cheap eats. But that's okay, Jakarta's got an abundance of extremely cheap tasty food. The most important thing is to find your honey's absolute favourite guilty pleasure, whether it be sate kambing or martabak telur (Cheap eats for two:  around Rp. 40,000).
The food may be cheap, but you can still enjoy a romantic dinner if you have the right setting to eat it. Go back to your place and set the mood by turning down the lights and setting up a few strategically placed candles. Plate your street food or whatever as nicely as you can. Try to arrange the meal neatly, like it was from a fancy restaurant. (Candles: around Rp. 20,000).

After dinner, clean up (and insist on doing the dishes too!) and settle in to watch a classic romantic movie. Again, you will get thoughtfulness points if you can find your sweety's absolute favourite romance flick, but you can possibly score even more points by finding a totally new movie for them to love. If they’re really not into romance movies, then you can always pick out their favourite horror, comedy or kung-fu movie as well. Remember, tonight should be all about making them happy. Blow the candles out, snuggle up to your loved one and watch your DVD in the dark to maximise intimacy.

A DATE UNDERNEATH THE STARS
After the movie, take your date out on a little mystery trip. Do a little reconnaissance beforehand and find the tallest building in your area (with minimal security) and take your date to the rooftop. Amaze your date with the night sky- from up there you might even be able to see a few stars, a rare and wonderful sight in Jakarta.
If a security guy walks up and interrupts you, give him a pack of cigarettes and tell him about your plan, he'll leave you alone for sure. Then give your date a homemade card featuring an original poem written for the occassion and photo ofthe two of you. Your date will be in awe, and your wallet will be safe as well! You accidentally forget Valentine's Day even though you've seen lots of banners and Valentine's Day cards all over the places, and now you only have enough money left for a casual date. Don't worry, we've got a plan for you to save your relationship and celebrate Valentine's Day in style.

FLOWERS
Flowers always work! They never ever fail! Women surely love flowers, so why not bringing her some without spending too much money. Go to Pasar Bunga Rawa Belong, Jl. Sulaiman no. 50, Kebon Jeruk (www.bunga-rawabelong.com), a 24 hour flower market where you can buy roses at a very low price. You can buy 60 carnation roses (in red or white) or 10 big Ecuadoroian roses for only Rp. 75,000. If you’re not a fan of roses, Casablanca lilies have the same amount charm as roses but they are pricier (each one is Rp. 75,000) so one will have to be enough. Or you could buy Tulips for cheap ( each are about Rp. 5,000) and you still please your girlfriend. Our suggestion? Buy a bouquet of rose, chrysanthemum and aster. It will cost less than Rp. 50,000 and she'll be surprised by the humongous hand bouquet.
THE REASONABLE ROMANTIC DINNER
Now you probably have Rp. 150,000 to go but the day's not over yet and a romantic dinner would be lovely. Take her to Kafe Pisa, Jl. But please do make a reservation, because it's usually crowded, even when it's not Valentine's Day. To make it more romantic, reserve a table in the outdoor area near the small fountain. The warm dim lights and pleasant atmosphere will help create a perfect evening.

BAKE A ROMANTIC CAKE
After dinner's done, invite your honey back to your place for a special dessert. No, not that kind of dessert (maybe later, if everything goes smoothly). We're talking about something you've made yourself, which will hopefully earn you literal brownie points. Try baking your own dessert with your partner, even if it comes out bad, they'll love that you made the effort. Give your darling a nostalgic adventure experience for Valentine's Day by taking them to Jakarta's premier (ie only) theme park, Dunia Fantasy!
You'll want to start early since the traffic is always unpredictable. Put on your comfiest T-shirt and shorts (it would be wise to bring a spare T-shirt, in case things get a little bit wet and wild), start your engine and leave the house at 9 am. Bring your cutest lunch boxes and stop by the nearest Padang restaurant to fill them up before heading up north.
Get in touch with your inner kiddie by riding Dufan's classic rides such as the Tornado and the Halilintar (Thunderbolt). After that you can slow down your racing pulse at Istana Boneka (Doll Palace).
